At 3.56 ounces, this is still one of the lightest iOS devices money can buy (though the newer 3.1-ounce iPod Touch beats it slightly), feeling practically nonexistent in your pocket.Ĭompared with the bigger, faster, pricier fifth-generation iPod Touch, the fourth-generation model is a year behind when it comes to specs. There's a Home button below the capacitive touch screen, which still measures 3.5 inches diagonally. The Touch does have an integrated speaker, located behind a tiny grille on the bottom edge of the device, along with a standard dock connection and a 3.5mm headphone jack. I would still like a way to turn it into an ordinary mp3 player, since it needs to need to be restored every time I sync it to iTunes (this is the third time this week), and being able to manually maintain it should increase its life time. The iPod's front-facing camera is placed above the screen and behind the glass, where the speaker would normally be found on a mobile phone. Update: After messing with my iPod all day, and then a few more hours after posting this, I finally got it to restore successfully. It is an older iPod, a 5th gen 8gb iPod Nano. Otherwise I guess I'll start another thread (or update this one, whichever is better for the forum members) and see if you guys have better advice than what I have been finding elsewhere. If I can load songs onto it it and have it play them randomly I'll be happy. I don't really want any of the iPod features, or the unnecessary (but amazing) iPod UI. I would prefer a method that does not use iTunes if possible. So if it is possible to completely reformat it, and install compatible, but generic software, or even the correct iPod software manually let me know please. I can't be the only one that has wanted an iPod that acts reasonably afterall. Basically my iPod refuses to restore under any reasonable method I have tried, and I imagine it should be easier to just scrap the whole iPod software and maintain it manually.
